Matt MacNeil began writing music in 2019 as one half of “Homer” with Matthew Tavares. In Homer’s brief existence as a band, they were featured on numerous editorial playlists (Spotify, Apple Music, NME, etc… and also this one curated by Damon Albarn) and synced in several movies and tv shows (Netflix, Disney+, CBS).
After Homer, Matt began writing and recording music on his own. So far, he has released two albums and a handful of singles between 2020-2024, with a 3rd album slated for early 2025.
Listeners are quick to recognize Matt’s penchant for catchy, infectious guitar-driven indie rock. Juggling topics like self-esteem, sobriety, and working a job at a factory (which he has never done), Matt’s lyrics and distinct melodies exude honesty, sincerity, and charm.
In 2022, he corralled a band together to play his songs live — touring across canada (+ some america), playing a festival and an in-studio radio set along the way.
Matt also works as a producer. He signed a publishing deal with Kingsway Music, releasing four sample packs, as well as working as a songwriter and producer directly with other artists. Most recently, he co-produced the opening song, “Old Body, New Mind” on the Juno-winning album ‘Verbathim’ by Nemahsis.
As of Spring 2025, Matt MacNeil continues to write, record, perform, mix, produce, and even Master (uh oh!) all of his own music. He is fully independent and unsigned.
